bulletNational & Statewide Student Conferences
ConferenceDeveloping and sustaining strong leadership skills takes tremendous time and energy. Every year, students attend conferences to develop their skills and establish interpersonal networks that can be sustained throughout their careers. Opportunities include the TCU Leadership Institute, an on-campus evening networking dinner with community leaders, the West Point Conference on Ethical Leadership at the United States Military Academy’s National Conference on Ethics in America, where representatives from across the U.S. come together to exchange viewpoints and philosophies regarding moral and ethical development on college campuses; The Leadership Consortium Regional Student Leadership Conference that includes nationally prominent keynote speakers, and numerous interest sessions guided by faculty members, staff, and student leaders on a variety of leadership topics and State of Leadership, a statewide conference focused on creating awareness and positive change towards the current issues facing Texas.

bulletState of Leadership

  The State of Leadership is a statewide, comprehensive students conference designed to cultivate a strong commitment among students to become responsible citizens and promote positive change within the state of Texas.  The conference offers an array of distinguished keynote and workshop presenters and networking opportunities. 
The 2006-2007 State of Leadership conference will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007.
 

Goals

Students attending this conference will:

  • Exposure to the issues currently facing our communities

  • Explore creative ways in which to become effective change agents through the design of an action plan

  • Build a network comprised of university students, faculty, staff and community leaders

bulletTLC Conference
The Leadership Consortium of North Texas Colleges and Universities (TLC) is comprised of 18 colleges and universities.  Each year this organizations provides quality student leadership training and professional development opportunities across North Texas by hosting an annual conference offered during the spring semester.  The TCU Leadership Center sponsors 10 students to attend.  If you are interested in learning more about this conference, please contact Laura Thomas at l.thomas@tcu.edu to learn more. 

 

bulletWest Point Conference

October 21-25, 2007

The annual National Conference on Ethics in America (NCEA) is a 3-day undergraduate student conference hosted by the United States Military Academy at West Point.  The NCEA's purpose is to heighten awareness among undergraduate students of ethical issues in collegiate communities and in professional career fields.

Each year, conference organizers expect to welcome 150 students from over 60 different schools across the United States.

Every fall semester, the TCU Leadership Center invites undergraduate students who possess a passion for promoting high ethical standards and a willingness to actively seek change on campus to apply for the two available spots to attend this national conference.

Selection Criteria

  • Sophomore or Junior standing

  • Active with the TCU Leadership Center

  • Completion of a reflection paper after returning from the conference

  • Commitment to active implementation of conference findings to life at TCU

  • The TCU Leadership Center & the two chosen students share travel costs.  Cost to students is between $100-200.

bulletLeaderKIDS

In collaboration with Leadership Fort Worth , LeaderKIDS is a mentoring program designed specifically for 8th graders in Fort Worth ISD schools.  The mission of the program seeks to develop the leadership abilities in middle school students through community involvement.  The 8th graders are chosen not based on their current demonstration of strong leadership skills, but on their potential to be leaders.  TCU students are sought to serve as mentors to the LeaderKIDS throughout the year-long program.  The program meets monthly on Tuesday afternoons from 2:00pm – 6:00pm at various sites throughout the city  of Fort Worth.  Topics of each meeting include:  challenging oneself though TCU low-element and high-element challenge course, career planning, and the importance of volunteerism.  If you are interested in serving as a mentor in this program, please e-mail leadership@tcu.edu to learn more.

bulletin Partnership with the Center for Civic Literacy

TCU’s Center for Civic Literacy provides an active learning process for undergraduates by requiring them to participate in the development and implementation of a policy project.  Students also have the opportunity to engage in a community-based Civic Literacy Internship for academic credit.  As a part of its community outreach, the Center sponsors conferences, forums, and workshops for the public and the university on issues significant to both.  It also supports community-based research on important public issues and collaborative efforts between local governments and the university.  Contact Karen Anisman at k.anisman@tcu.edu to learn more.
